    There are only two things in life a guy like Greg dreams of being when they grow up. It was either wearing the red shirt of the Liverpool Football Club to a stadium of screaming fans. Or being the fellow that helps those fans navigate the real world through offering timely business and accounting advice.

    Considering the length of his accounting career and the many happy clients he now calls friends, Greg is pretty sure he’s chosen wisely.

    Greg studied a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accounting (yes folks, he knew his destiny early on) before qualifying as a CPA. He’s spent 15 years working within small and large accounting firms as well as large and small businesses as an accountant, business advisor and all round ally when it comes to the accounts side of the business train. Like Kate, Greg sought to use his experience and ideas for the benefit of as many businesses possible. Despite being a successful partner for almost five years at a mid-tier firm with a bright future as a property accountancy specialist ahead of him, Greg was chasing something more hands on and ultimately, fulfilling. So, he formed Orbit Accounting and Tax to take an active role in the cloud accounting revolution for small business.

    Today, Greg’s role is more than just a typical accountant. He uses his experience as a small business operator, together with his 15 years as an accountant to help small businesses not only meet their tax obligations, but to create strategies that promote business growth and profitability.

  • Amelia Carey

    Client Manager, Bookkeeper

    Very few accounting firms can run at full tilt without a savvy client manager, bookkeeper and problem solver. We’re lucky in that our very own Amelia Edwards is all three.

    As a fully qualified bookkeeper, Amelia has a Certificate IV in bookkeeping, a diploma in Management specialising in Business Administration and is a Certified Xero Accounting Advisor (or in other words, a total Xero whizz). This, coupled with a wealth of experience obtained at Orbit Accounting and Tax as well as 20 years experience in corporate administration and client management, means Amelia is somewhere in the upper stratosphere of extremely brilliant at her job.

    Amelia’s philosophy towards her work is to focus on getting the best possible result at all times. Always giving 100%, she is a natural problem solver and is insanely organised. Amelia also has a gift for listening and seeking calm, proactive solutions to the most difficult of problems. Even if those problems are difficult conversations with the ATO or navigating issues that make other bookkeepers pale.

    During her spare time, she like walks and snuggles with Darcy the dog and spending time with her family. Amelia makes a mean ANZAC cookie and is often found providing the much needed baked remedy to the dreaded 3pm work-day sugar blues.

    General Manager and Admin Automation Specialist

    Some say working in accounts is less a day job and more a calling. And this is none truer than with our General Manager and Admin Automation Specialist, Kate Barnett.

    Kate began her career as a BSc (Hons) graduate of the University of Kent (UK) in Multimedia Technology and Design. She hopped on a plane and landed successfully in Sydney as a Client Manager in a respected Sydney design firm where she found the wheels were increasingly turning to a different path.

    You see, a lifetime of working with small businesses and pondering the challenges at night shaped Kate’s desire to do more to help in a practical sense. As she watched and indeed felt the pressure of cash-flow and payroll, debtor chasing and BAS payments, she wondered about solutions and possibilities. Kate began to see more and more the cost of time, labour and inefficiencies with business administration and record keeping that were whittling profits. So like any person with a genuine interest in helping, Kate decided to make a change.

    Today, Kate enjoys researching, testing and implementing technology and systems that saves both Orbit Accounting and Tax and our valued clients from the tender nibbles (and big bites) to time and budget found in admin inefficiencies. She’s the queen of clearing paperwork clutter, unnecessary work from to do lists and is a gun at Xero add-ons.

    In between discovering the next way to improve your business, Kate is also the keeper of the Orbit Accounting and Tax promise of uncomplicated accounting.

    No matter the challenge or the question, Mary has that rare mix of warmth and knowledge that lets you know you are in safe hands.

    If the Orbit Accounting and Tax team needed inspiration for Mary’s Secret Santa present, it would definitely be something of a royal theme. Mary is our resident Queen of Tax. She has the unique ability to snuffle out deductions and tackle the trickiest of tax hurdle. All while exuding a feeling of warmth and comfort that puts even the nerviest Nelly at ease.

    In fact, it is this calm blue ocean approach to Mary’s work that attracted the Orbit team in the first instance. Yes, as a senior accountant with 15 years experience dealing with small business, we certainly admire her experience. Most definitely being a CPA with a Bachelor of Commerce with major in Accounting means we know she’s more than qualified. And it doesn’t hurt that Mary is also a Justice of the Peace, a licensed Tax and BAS agent, is Xero certified and a member of Toastmasters either.

    But honestly, it’s her cool, calm and collected attitude to day to day work and that warm, delicate calm that sets Mary apart from other accountants out there. She loves helping, explaining and putting people at ease, all qualities that make her a perfect addition to the Orbit team.

    When Mary isn’t staying abreast with the latest taxation changes, she loves nothing more than cooking up a storm, enjoying time with her family and offsetting time spent at the desk with long, rewarding walks in nature.
